Herdsmen reportedly kill US-based Edo Prince, Dennis Abuda, after collecting #14m ransom

A US-based Edo Prince, Eloniyo Dennis Abuda, who was kidnapped by suspected herdsmen in Fugar, in Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, on Saturday has been confirmed dead.

The Georgia-based Edo prince recently returned home for the burial of a relative and was kidnapped alongside three other relatives – David Oghieakhe, Richard Bologi, and a lady simply identified as Mrs Comfort.

While the trio regained their freedom on Tuesday, Abuda’s lifeless body was however found in the forest on Wednesday.

Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and human rights activist, later confirmed that the deceased was the uncle of his personal assistant, adding that the family paid a total of ₦14 million

In a tweet on Wednesday night, Omokri said: “My PA’s uncle, Prince Eloniyo Abuda, who attended his dad’s burial at Fugar, Edo, was kidnapped by herdsmen. They demanded ₦14 million. It was paid. Today, we discovered his corpse. He is survived by a wife and 2 kids. How long Nigeria? How long?”

WuzupNigeria further gathered that the deceased died after being shot by his abductors while being forced to march into the forest.

Although reports suggested that Abuadu was kidnapped on Saturday, a source close to the family said the deceased was abducted on Monday.

Joe Kadiri-Akhigbe told WuzupNigeria that four Fulani herdsmen were apprehended by the police, while one was killed during a chase.

He said: Abudu “is my childhood friend. We went to US when we were teenagers and got our education and raised our families.

“He came to Nigeria early December to spend Christmas and New Year with us and his extended family. On Monday, 01 February 2021, he was kidnapped on his way to Lagos to catch a return flight to Atlanta. Ransomed was paid.

“We recovered his body this afternoon. Four Fulani herdsmen were captured and one killed by police… one of the kidnappers was wearing Dennis’s wedding ring,” he said.
