Ibadan court jails 28-year-old for unlawful dealing in Indian hemp



An herdsman has appeared before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly destroying farm produce worth N3m.

The 40-year old was accused of allegedly grazing cattles on a five acres of maize and cassava plantation belonging to one Alhaji Isah Salawudeen, destroying the crops in the process.

Facing a count of malicious damage, Mohamodu, was said to have, “maliciously damaged five acres of land planted with maize and cassava valued N3million by allowing his cows to enter and graze on the farm belonging to one Alhaji Isah Salawudeen.”

The offence was said to contravene Section 451 of the criminal code cap 34 vol ll laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

After listening to his charge, Umar pleaded not guilty to the one count charge pressed against him.

His counsel, Remigus Ngwu, applied for Mohamodu’s bail in the most liberal and affordable term and the prosecutor, Adepoju Kayode did not oppose the application.

Magistrate, Adebola Ajanaku, in her ruling remanded the defendant in police custody and adjourned the matter till February 13, 2020.
