Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson has become the latest injured Reds star, after being withdrawn at half-time in the 2-0 loss against Belgium.
England manager, Gareth Southgate, confirmed that the Liverpool man was substituted due to tightness in his leg and could miss Liverpool’s next Premier League match with a number of first-team stars already out due to injury.
“Jordan had a bit of tightness at half-time and felt he couldn’t carry on,” said Southgate, adding he was not sure if it was a hamstring issue. [Sky Sports]
Prior to Hendo’s injury, left-back Andy Robertson joined his full-back partner Trent Alexander-Arnold on the injury list after picking up a hamstring issue while on international duty with Scotland.
Alexander-Arnold was forced to withdraw from the England squad due to an injury picked up during the Reds 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Jurgen Klopp was already fuming with lengthy injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez (probably out of the season). Both defenders underwent surgeries.
Also in midfield, Klopp will be without Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as both players recover from knee injuries while forward Mohamed Salah will miss Sunday’s match against Leicester City after testing positive for COVID-19 while away with the Egyptian national team.
