Hellish Nigeria: Shehu Sani, Adeyanju, Omojuwa, others speak as reactions trail Bashir’s response to Omotola

Nigerians have lambasted Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, Bashir Ahmad, over his response to a post by Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde.

WuzupNaija reports that Omotola in a tweet on Monday described Nigeria under the watch of president Muhammadu Buhari and vice president Yemi Osinbajo as ‘Hellish’ due to the lack of money in circulation coupled with the continuous assault and killings by uniformed personnel.

In his response to Omotola’s tweet, Bashir dismissed her comment, saying those making ‘clean money’ are not complaining under the present administration.

Bashir’s tweet has sparked reactions from Nigerians on the social media who have taken to Twitter to lambaste him for insinuating that the actress was not making ‘clean money’ for speaking up against the plight of the people.

Among prominent Nigerians who have reacted are Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central, social commentator, and activists, Deji Adeyanju, Japhet Omojuwa among many others.

In his reaction, Senator Sani said the actress’ comment was a reflection of the standpoint of millions of poor Nigerians.

The Senator wrote on Twitter,

“Omotola’s view reflects the views of millions of poor Nigerians;throwing mud on her cannot not twist the reality.”

Deji Adeyanju also wrote:

“My dear sis, posterity will be kind to you. You spoke up when it mattered the most. In this part of the world, speaking up against the government is one of the most difficult things to do because the government is more powerful than the people and the constitution.”

Japhet Omojuwa also noted that,

“The reaction to Omotola’s tweet has been shocking really. Someone asking better of her country’s leaders should not always be forced into a partisan narrative. If she wanted to be partisan, she would have posted that before the elections. Not every time party, sometimes Nigeria!

“If Nigeria is as heavenly as some of the reactions to Omotola’s tweet suggest, who are the people running to Canada? Why is everyone, from officeholders to anyone who can save up for a ticket working to have an American child? Can we at least even face our truths?”
