In a surprising move, the organisers of The Headies have announced that the prestigious Nigerian music award will hold two separate editions in 2025.

The founder of The Headies, Ayo Animashaun, made the revelation on Tuesday evening during an event in Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to Animashaun, the 17th edition of The Headies will take place on April 5, 2025, and will focus on music released in 2024.

The nomination list for this edition is set to be unveiled on February 12, 2025.

The 18th edition of The Headies will then be held in December 2025, although the exact date is yet to be announced.

Earlier in February 2024, the organisers confirmed that The Headies would return to Nigeria after hosting the 2022 and 2023 editions in the United States.

The 16th Headies took place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia—the same venue that hosted the event in 2022.

Founded in 2006, The Headies has grown to become one of Africa’s most prestigious music awards, recognizing and celebrating outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry.
