The wife of Rauf Oladejo, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria [FRCN] worker jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the lagoon last Friday, has said she could explain her husband’s decision to take his own life.

WuzupNaija had on Friday reported that the deceased a driver with the radio station had parked his car on the busy road before diving head first into the Lagoon.

Speaking in a The Punch Newspaper report, Oladejo’s wife, Zainab, described the deceased as a peace-loving husband and father.

Zainab said she could not fathom why her husband decided to take his own life.

She said,

“God is the only one who sees the intention of his heart for choosing to take his own life; I don’t know what could have been his reason. We have been married for over 40 years and nobody ever tried settling a dispute between us.

“When he was leaving for Lagos on Sunday, he prayed for us and one of the children followed him to the park. He was a peace-loving man; he was not in the habit of fighting with anyone and anytime he had money, he would buy things for all the children around.”

The second son of the Ibadan, Oyo State indigene, Sheriff Oladejo, said his father was not suffering from any sickness, adding that lack of money was not a problem for him either.

He stated,

“My father was not sick and he was not thinking about anything. If he was thinking about anything, he would have told me, because he did not hide anything from me. He did not have any money issue too, because if he needed money, he would call to tell us. Even the day his body was retrieved from the lagoon, more than N10,000 was recovered from his pocket.

“I believe that what is hidden to us as humans is open to God.”

Before his death, Oladejo was a driver attached to an Assistant Director in charge of the Information Communication Technology unit of the FRCN.

He was said to have been newly posted from the FRCN Training School located in Shogunle to the Broadcasting House in Ikoyi, Lagos.

According to reports, the driver had alighted from a brown Toyota Corolla car and jumped into the water, head-first on Friday morning.

It was learnt that Oladejo’s body was later recovered by a joint team of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Marine Police, Lagos State Waterways Authority and Rapid Response Squad, and later taken to the LASWA jetty at Ebute Ero.

It was gathered that the family of the deceased is based in Ibadan, Oyo State and that the father of eight had retired from the service of the FRCN earlier this year before being employed as a driver on an ad hoc arrangement.
