A former lecturer of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile Ife, Prof. Richard Iyiola Akindele, has pleaded guilty to sexual harassment charge against him.
Akindele was dragged to court for demanding sex to award marks to one of his students, Monica Osagie.
Osagie, a postgraduate student in the Masters of Business programme, had released a recorded telephone conversation, which went viral, in which the lecturer could be heard demanding sex for marks.
The embattled lecturer, who had earlier pleaded not guilty to the crime, was dismissed from his job after an inquiry by the management of the institution indicted him.
Akindele, however, changed his plea from ‘not guilty’ to ‘guilty,’ on Monday.
The prosecutor, Shogunle Adenekan told the court that all parties involved in the matter have reached a plea bargain.
He then asked the court for a suspended sentence for the lecturer.
At the previous hearing, Richard Iyiola Akindele was denied bail and was accused of making incantation while making his report with the prosecutor.
Akindele was also accused of being involved in child pornography.
