Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State was on Wednesday allegedly tear-gassed by security operatives who had earlier blocked the government house in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
According to Fayose’s SA Public Communications & New Media, Lere Olayinka, the incident was part of a wider plan to assassinate the governor before the Ekiti election holding on Saturday.
The development reportedly created tension among residents of the area who scuttled to safety.
Lere Olayinka, Ekiti State Governor’s Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, took to his verified Twitter page to update the governor’s supporters and Nigerians on the latest incident.
He wrote:
