Real Madrid winger, Eden Hazard, has told the Spanish club’s fans that he meant no harm or disrespect for laughing after their elimination from the Champions League semi-finals.

Zinedine Zidane’s side suffered a 3-1 defeat on aggregate at the hands of the wasteful Blues side at Stamford Bridge where Hazard spent seven years of his career.

The 30-year-old Belgian was seen reliving old memories and at the same time congratulating former Chelsea buddies after the final whistle.

ESPN reported that the images which went viral after the game have generated a “monumental” anger within his new employers.

However, BBC reported that Hazard who was substituted before full-time, took to social media to apologise after he was spotted shaking hands and chatting with former colleague, Kurt Zouma, and Chelsea’s summer signing, Edouard Mendy, despite failing to make any obvious impact in the game.

It was “not my intention to offend Real Madrid fans,” the Belgian wrote to his 27m followers on his verified Instagram page.

“…always my dream to play for Real Madrid and I came here to win,” added Hazard who has scored only four goals in 40 appearances for Real.

The 30-year-old player won two Premier League and two Europa League trophies in his seven years with Chelsea after joining the Blues from Lille in 2012, scoring a total of 85 goals before joining Madrid.

Hazard, who left Stamford Bridge in 2019, could redeem himself in the face of Madrid’s fans if he can help them retain their La Liga title successfully as the aim to overtake local rivals, Atletico Madrid, who currently lead them with two points.
