HASTY CONCLUSIONS! Nigerian-American writer, Tomi Adeyemi, apologises to Nora Roberts after calling her out on Twitter
A Nigerian-American writer, identified as Tomi Adeyemi, has clarified her earlier claims that renowned American author, Nora Roberts, copied the title of one of her novel without giving her credit.
Adeyemi had earlier taken to twitter to express her displeasure with Roberts and shared a photo of the cover of her book and the cover of Robert’s new book which share similar titles.
However, in an update, Adeyemi revealed that the 68 year old Roberts reached out to her and explained that she’d never heard of Adeyemi’s book before the Twitter call out.
Adeyemi said, “Nora was kind enough to reach out & explain that today was the first she’d heard of my book.
“After talking to her, I believe our titles were created in isolation.
“I’m grateful she explained & I’ve apologized, but I wanted to address it here as I know others were upset too.”

Meanwhile, Twitterarti had expressed divergent views after Adeyemi “rudely” called out Nora Roberts earlier today.
Many had used derogarotary terms to call Adeyemi out while others had simply advised her to do the right thing by calling Roberts attention to her assertions instead of “disrespecting” her online.

I’m not sure the Nora we know would do this. Probably just a coincidence. Please make enquiries and be sure an artist really copied your work before coming at them on social media.

You are being petty. It is not enough to be great? Sit on your throne as a published author and quit throwing stones. I say this as someone who is reading YOUR book right now and recommending it to students.

Why is it just the white chicks pretending not to get this? Super powerful and successful author copies the name of a recent bestseller in same genre is not an accident. No one would do this on purpose if not to profit from the recognition.

Blair, somehow I knew you’d be here…ah, where to start?…for one, there aren’t any others with the level of visibility of Tomi’s published in 2018. Two, why name your sequel to ‘Year One’ this specific, unrelated title in 2018 except to capitalize off of search engine?

This does it for me. Your book is really awesome but you know who Nora Roberts is? My keyboard has her name on my predictions

I’m so sorry, but this isn’t how any of this works. Children of Blood and Bone only pubbed a few months before the Nora Roberts book. Totally different punishers. The art departments of different publishers don’t share their work with each other. Blood and Bone is a common title.

There is literally zero way that any writer, particularly one as well known as Nora Roberts, would have done this deliberately. Also, the Roberts book is 2nd in a series. The 1st book in the series pubbed in 2017. When series are sold by agents, titles are sussed out in advance.
— never claimed i was funny (@veronicamariez2) November 27, 2018
It was probably sold by the agent to the publisher as a three book deal, my guess is in 2014 or 2015. Most people have exactly zero idea how these things work. The advance review copies for the Roberts book probably were issued before the other book even released.

Also blood and bone is a common title. Over 100 writers publish books with the name “blood and bone” I’m disgusted at your attempt of defacing Nora Roberts. It’s disgusting.

Ummm WHAT?! The font is pretty much identical? And the layout? ?
Like its designed so that people see the title and think it’s your book, just to get them to pick it up. It majorly sucks, but that cover will never compare to the stunning beauty of CBB!!!— Elise Longden (@EliseLongden) November 27, 2018
The fonts are very different and Nora’s book has her own name bigger than the title. If you’re looking for CBB and pick up “NORA ROBERTS (and also a title I guess)” then you’ve got some weird shopping habits.

I wasn’t trying to start an argument, but I suppose I got so passionate about this that I came across in a different way than intended! My point wasn’t that people would pick up Nora’s book and think its CBB, it was this being a marketing ploy that can regularly be seen in lit.
