Reports reaching us from Kano State revealed that officials of the Nigeria police force have teargassed protesting members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

Shi’ites members are currently staging a protest in Kano following the continued detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Reports say the peaceful protest took an unexpected turn when members of the group were confronted by armed police men who used tear gas canisters to disperse them.

It was further gathered that the same protest is also holding in Gombe state as we give you this report.

Recall that authorities of the Nigerian army in December 2015 stormed the residence of
Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, in Zaria, Kaduna State and took him into custody after his followers clashed with military authorities.

El-Zakzaky has been in military detention ever since with his fate yet to be decided by the authorities.

The military operation allegedly resulted to the mass killings of over 1000 followers of El-zakzaky both women and children.

The incident aroused bad blood among his followers who have since staged protests in major cities in the northern part of the country to demand unconditional release of their leader.
