Suspected hackers have taken control of the official Facebook page of the Kano State Hisbah Board, posting inappropriate and explicit content.
The incident, which came to light a few days ago, has sparked public outrage due to the nature of the images shared, which go against the values of the Hisbah Board.
The Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, confirmed the hack to journalists on Friday and stated, “Kano State Hisbah Board is aware that its Facebook page has been hacked and inappropriate things are being shared. On behalf of the board, I call on people to help solve this problem.” He assured that necessary steps are being taken to address the issue.
Sheikh Daurawa expressed regret over the situation and urged the public to ignore the current content circulating on the page, emphasizing that the inappropriate posts do not reflect the board’s values. He also encouraged the community to report the hacked page to Meta in English to help stop the spread of the offensive content.
The Head of ICT at the Hisbah Board, Sani Zailani, added that the page has faced similar hacks in the past and that Meta has been contacted to resolve the issue. “Meta has pledged to resolve the issue within 48 hours,” Zailani said.
He thanked the public for their support and concern, noting that efforts are ongoing to recover the page and regain control. The board’s ICT department is actively working on restoring the page and is in discussions with Meta to fix the problem.
