The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated the young Nigerian artist and doctor, Fola David, who recently concluded a six-day contest to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest drawing by an individual.
The governor, who took to his X page on Monday to wish the artist, stated that the artist had been a beacon of hope for the state since 2020.
Sanwoolu wrote, “From the challenging days of the pandemic where he was a #COVID19Hero at our Onikan Isolation Centre to breaking world records at our Onikan Stadium (Mobolaji Johnson Arena), Dr. Fola David has been a beacon of excellence and service.
“Congratulations on creating the world’s largest hand-drawing by an individual, ‘Unity in Diversity.’ Lagos is proud!
“We are happy to have supported this record-breaking feat to showcase the extraordinary talents within our state. Your dedication and creativity inspire us all.
“Continue to dream big and do audacious things, Dr @foladavidart.”
Fola David had earlier stated that he titled his work “Unity in Diversity” and the message he is trying to pass across is love and peace which are vital components to our development as a nation.
The artist’s massive artwork, spanning 850 square meters, surpassed the previous record of 629.98 square meters held by Ravi Soni from India.
The just concluded event had garnered significant support, attracting visits from prominent figures and celebrities like the former governor and 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, Lagos State’s senior special assistant on new media, Jubril Gawat, Hilda Baci, Farooq Faq Oreagba, Alex, Ruggedman, Olumide Oworu, Kaffy Shafau,Aproko Doctor amongst others.
