At least one person has been reported to have been shot in Iwo, Osun state following a bloody clash between thugs who are members of different gangs tormenting residents of the town.
Investigation carried out by our correspondent revealed that the problem started about three days ago when some youths known as 50 Mopol injured a nephew of a leader of another gang who controlled Ode Oniyan and adjourning areas.
The leader of the hoodlums controlling Ode Oniyan Junction, known as Ori ejo, was said to have been angered by the attack on his nephew. As a result, he was said to have gone out in search of those who carried out the attack.
A resident of the town, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent on the telephone that Muri Ori Ejo, armed with a pistol and a rifle, met Wolex, who is the leader of the 50 Mopol and opened fire on him.
He said that Wolex was taken to different hospitals in the town but the doctors at the hospitals rejected him and he was eventually taken outside the town for treatment.
The source said, ” There is no problem now. Policemen are on ground but we don’t know what would happen at night. The hoodlums normally operate at night.
“We are afraid, we cannot go put at night so that we won’t be attacked by the hoodlums especially those who are angry that there leader was shot.”
The Osun West Area Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Femi Awofadeji, confirmed to our correspondent there was crisis in the town but the NSCDC had handed it over ro the police.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mr. Ajibade Egbedele, said the command was on top of the situation.
He said policemen deployed in the town had restored law and order, adding that the command was on top of the situation.
The PPRO urged the people of the town to go about their businesses without any fear.
