Gunmen reportedly kill three in Osun community invasion
Suspected gunmen have killed at least three people during an invasion of Koka Village in the Obokun Local Government area of Osun State.
The attack was reportedly carried out by eight gunmen, according to an anonymous eyewitness who told The Punch that the gunmen stormed the village around 11:30 pm on Sunday.
Another resident, simply identified as Tayo Ola, corroborated the report, adding that three villagers were shot but none was taken away by the attackers.
The assailants reportedly fled into the bush following the arrival of hunters, the witness added.
Confirming the report, Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said that the attack was carried out by some herdsmen.
“Some herdsmen on Sunday attacked Koka Village in Obokun Local Government Area and attempted to abduct some villagers.
“Villagers and hunters mobilised and engaged the attackers in a firefight and liberated themselves. Three villagers sustained bullet wounds. Those injured were responding to treatment at Asubiaro State Hospital, Osogbo.
“Police have drafted operatives to join locals on search operation to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” he said.
