Gunmen kill two people in Ekiti, steal money, valuables

Gunmen killed a Point of Sales operator and a rice seller on Thursday, in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.

According to the PUNCH, the PoS operator was attacked in the teaching hospital area. Sources said the gunmen arrived on a motorbike, shot the operator, and stole his money and valuables.

One source said, “The PoS operator had just arrived for the day’s business when the gunmen attacked him and left him in a pool of his blood.” Police officers arrived shortly after and took the operator’s body to the hospital.

In a separate incident the same day, the gunmen also shot and killed a wheelbarrow pusher who was selling rice at the Oja Bisi market area. Another source reported, “Traders were shocked and had to flee for safety. The development forced traders and passersby to flee for safety.”

The Ekiti Police Command Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incidents. He said, “Immediately we got the information, we deployed our men to the scenes, the body of the victims had been recovered to the morgue.”

Abutu added, “The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Adeniran Akinwale, has ordered an investigation into the incidents so that those who perpetrated the incidents can be brought to book.”
