Gunmen kill Ondo businessman after Ramadan prayer

A businessman, Ismaila Awoyinka, was shot dead by gunmen in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Saturday.

It was gathered that Awoyinka, who sold building materials, was killed near his home opposite Caring Heart Mega School, Idi Mango area, shortly after leaving the mosque.

According to a resident, the incident happened around 8:35 p.m. on Saturday after Awoyinka had attended the Taraweeh prayer, a special prayer during Ramadan.

“He was killed the moment he left the mosque after Taraweeh prayer, very close to his house. Some people dressed in white clothes came on a motorcycle and stayed around the area. As he was about to enter his house, they ambushed him and shot him at close range. He died on the spot,” the source said.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said an investigation has started.

“The incident happened, and we have commenced an investigation into it,” she stated.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but residents have expressed fear over the rising cases of violence in the area.
