A family of four has been killed by unknown gunmen in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The victims — an elderly man and three women — were murdered in their home while they were asleep on Thursday night. Their bodies were later found lying lifeless inside their rooms.

The reason behind the brutal attack is still unknown. However, people living nearby said the attackers did not argue or fight with the victims but simply stormed the house and killed them.

The police spokesperson in Anambra State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the sad incident on Friday. He said the victims were members of the family of Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo from Ekwuru Isseke, also known as Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke.

Ikenga explained that a joint security team made up of the police, army, and other agencies is already working in the area to stop further attacks and maintain peace.

“Following the joint clearance operation by the police, military, and other security operatives to dislodge criminal elements in the state, unfortunately, in the late hours of May 22, 2025, we recorded a cowardly and gruesome murder of a family of four — including three females and one man — by criminal elements at Isseke,” Ikenga said.

“Preliminary information revealed that the criminals unprovokedly attacked the elderly man and his family members. The family was later identified as Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo from Ekwuru Isseke (Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke).

“The bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited at the morgue while investigations continue.”

Ikenga added that police are already following some leads to catch those behind the attack.

He said, “The command sympathises with the families and friends of the victims. The area has been reinforced with more security officers, and further developments will be shared soon.”
