Gunmen kill comedian Aiza Nwosu in Anambra

Popular comedian and media personality Isaac Nwosu, widely known as Aiza Nwosu, has been shot dead alongside another man. This followed separate attacks by unidentified gunmen in Awka, Anambra State.

According to Punch, the attacks occurred late on Sunday at different locations in the state capital. Police confirm that three unidentified assailants travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla were allegedly involved.

Gunmen trail comedian before attack

Aiza Nwosu was reportedly attacked along S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo. Meanwhile, the second victim, whose identity had yet to be established, was killed along Capital City Road, Amaenyi.

An eyewitness claimed that the assailants trailed the comedian from his home before blocking his vehicle and opening fire.

“The assailants, numbering about three and driving in a tinted vehicle, trailed the comedian from his home, double-crossed his vehicle and later attacked him, shooting him dead,” the eyewitness said.

The attackers allegedly drove away from the scene before shooting the second man at another location. They also dispossessed him of his belongings.

Witnesses said gunshots caused panic in the area as residents fled for safety.

Although some residents suggested the killings could be linked to cult-related activities, police had not confirmed a motive as of the time of the report.

Police launch manhunt for attackers

Anambra State Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the killings in a statement on Monday. He said security operatives had begun a manhunt for those responsible.

“The Anambra State Police Command has condemned in the strongest terms the gunshot attacks carried out by unidentified gunmen in Awka, the state capital, on Sunday, August 30, 2026, which resulted in the deaths of two persons,” he said.

Ikenga said officers mobilised to both locations after receiving distress information and recovered the victims.

They were taken to a hospital where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

Police also recovered N7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from one of the scenes.

Police seek public assistance

Anambra State Commissioner of Police CP Nnanna Ama condemned the killings. He also ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.

Security personnel have also intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and surrounding communities.

The command appealed to residents, motorists, business owners and community leaders who witnessed the attacks or have information about the suspects and their vehicle. They asked these people to assist investigators.

Police assured members of the public that information provided would be treated confidentially. Efforts continue to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

Aiza Nwosu was known as a comedian and media personality in Anambra. News of his killing has triggered reactions from people familiar with his work.

Police said investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding both killings are ongoing.
