Gunmen kidnap two people in Delta, demand N7m ransom

Gunmen have kidnapped two people from the Abavo community in Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State, demanding a N7 million ransom.

Mrs. Anthonia Jegbefume was initially kidnapped a week ago at her home in Okpe-Abavo, and her 55-year-old husband, Mr. Friday Jegbefume, was shot dead by the gunmen.

The kidnappers released Mrs. Jegbefume over the weekend but abducted two individuals who brought N1.7 million, which was the amount the family could raise out of the demanded N7 million ransom. The two kidnapped individuals include a relative of Mrs. Jegbefume and a member of her deceased husband’s family.

A leader from the Abavo Clan Union, who chose to remain anonymous, explained the situation: “The kidnappers released the woman and took the people that went to pay the ransom fee. They had asked for N7 million, and the family was able to raise N1.7 million. When they gave the N1.7 million to them, they held those that brought the money and asked for the remaining N5.3 million.”

As of now, the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, SP Bright Edafe, has not provided any official comments on the situation.
