The Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, and his son have been kidnapped by gunmen along the Sokoto-Sabon Birni Road in Sokoto State.

The abductors are demanding a ransom of N1 billion for their release.

In addition to the kidnapping of the Sarkin Gobir and his son, five more people were kidnapped in the Sabon Birni area over the weekend.

The Sokoto Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i, confirmed the attack and said that police operatives are investigating the incident.

A son of the kidnapped district head, Alhaji Isa Gobir, shared details with journalists.

He said, “The bandits ambushed the Emir’s vehicle at the Kwanar Maharba area while he was traveling from Sokoto to his hometown, Sabon Birni. They started shooting, which caused the tires of the vehicle to burst. The driver lost control, and the car stopped suddenly.”

Gobir continued, “The bandits then abducted the district head and his driver, who is also his son.”

He appealed to the government to take all necessary actions to secure the release of the victims.

Sources in Sabon Birni reported that the kidnapping has caused outrage and concern among residents. They are urging authorities to act quickly to free the district head and his son.
