Gunmen have kidnapped the Chairman of the Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Safiyanu Isa Andaha.
The abduction took place on Monday night at Ningo village along Andaha – Akwanga Road, with a native of the area, Adamu Custom, also being taken by the assailants.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, assured that security personnel, including the police and other agencies, have swiftly initiated efforts to track down the abductors and secure the release of the victims.
“The Chairman, Safiyanu, was abducted at Ningo village on the Akwanga-Andaha Road in the Akwanga Local Government Area of the state along with one Alhaji Adamu Custom at about 8:30 p.m. on January 1, 2024,” disclosed the Special Adviser to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Haruna Kassimu.
Gunmen have been operating in various regions of the country despite the presence of security operatives.
Just a few weeks ago, gunmen ambushed a convoy in Rivers, resulting in casualties and the abduction of two Korean workers.
Nasarawa, along with Zamfara, faces challenges posed by bandits who terrorize communities, causing violence, abductions, and property destruction.
The criminal gangs maintain camps in a vast forest spanning multiple states in the North-Central and North-Western regions.
