The sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin children have been abducted by gunmen in Ibadan.

According to The Punch, the incident occurred on Wednesday in the Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area of the state.

A video from the scene showed a red sedan with visible damage, including a shattered driver’s side window, while residents gathered around the vehicle inspecting the aftermath of the attack.

Eyewitnesses in the video identified the victim as Adelabu’s younger sister, popularly referring to the former minister by his nickname, “Penkelemesi.”

One woman at the scene was heard saying the victim was the younger sister of “Penkelemesi,” while another resident added, “She is the last born of Bayo Adelabu, Penkele.”

Confirming the incident, one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, said the victims were kidnapped by unknown gunmen while travelling through the Elewura area of Ibadan.

“Adelabu’s younger sister, together with her twins, Peter and Paul, were kidnapped this morning by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge, Ibadan,” Awogboro said.

“The family members were going out this morning from Elewura to link the expressway when they were attacked and whisked away by the unknown kidnappers.”

Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he could not immediately verify the incident.

“I cannot independently verify this for now, but please hold on,” he said.

The abduction comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in Oyo State following recent incidents of kidnappings and attacks in different parts of the state.

In May, more than 40 teachers and students were reportedly abducted during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, while an APC chieftain, Wale Oriade, was kidnapped in Ibadan in December 2025.
