Gunmen kidnap Ambrose Alli University’s professor, demand N18m ransom

An Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma’s Professor of Engineering, Osadolor Odia, has been reportedly abducted by suspected gunmen on Thursday morning.

The PUNCH, quoting a source from the university, reported that the assailants have made a demand of N18 million ransom for Prof. Odia’s release.

The former Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering was abducted at Egoro, Ekpoma, while on his way to his farm.

Confirming the professor’s abduction, the source who pleaded anonymity, said, “I can confirm that Prof. Osadolor Odia was kidnapped today (on Thursday) on his way to his farm.”

The family of the professor were contacted by the suspected kidnappers who made the N18 million ransom demand, according to the source.

While the Public Relations Officer of the University, Edward Aihevba, said he heard the news on general information, without details of how the incident occurred, the spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Kontongs Bello, said he was not aware of the incident.

Bello however promised to ‎contact the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ekpoma.
