Gunmen reportedly launched an attack on the Adamawa State Police Headquarters located in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area. The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.

The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the attack, assuring the public that the situation was under control.

He stated, “The attack was repelled, but the identities of those behind it were unknown.”

A source, quoted by Daily Trust, suggested that the attackers might be military personnel seeking revenge for the alleged killing of a military officer by the police.

However, the police emphasized that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the cause of the attack and identify those responsible.

While the motive behind the attack remains under investigation, there are speculations about a possible connection to a recent faceoff between officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and some personnel of the Nigerian Air Force.

Last Friday, a confrontation occurred between EFCC officials and NAF personnel at the Kaduna Zonal Command of the anti-graft agency.

The NAF personnel attempted to release their colleagues, who had been arrested by EFCC operatives for allegedly trying to forcibly free fraud suspects from custody.

In response to the incident, EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, revealed that after a sting operation at an eatery in Barnawa, Kaduna, where five fraud suspects were arrested, six military personnel, including four Air Force personnel and two students of the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology, attempted to release the detained fraud suspects.

Oyewale stated, “The EFCC exercised restraint in the face of the provocation and flagrant abuse of power.”

Despite ongoing dialogue between the EFCC and the NAF leadership to resolve the matter, the situation escalated when, on Friday, November 17, 2023, “some unruly NAF Officers stormed the Kaduna Command in a commando-style, to forcefully release their detained colleagues.”

The EFCC, maintaining its commitment to its statutory mandate, eventually released the detained officers to the NAF Provost after due profiling.
