Gunmen have attacked Elyon Paradise Ministry Church in Asagba Ogwashi, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, shooting the pastor and abducting six worshippers.

The attack happened during a night vigil over the weekend.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident on Sunday, saying it was reported on Saturday evening.

“A rescue team is currently in the bush on their trail,” Edafe said.

Witnesses said the gunmen stormed the church during the service, surrounded the congregation, and took six members away to an unknown location.

The pastor, Apostle Divine Omodia, was shot and also had two of his fingers cut off by the attackers.

He was quickly taken to a hospital, where doctors are working to save his life.

Sources said the kidnappers have not yet reached out to the church or the victims’ families to demand a ransom.

The police assured that efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted worshippers and bring the attackers to justice.
