Gunmen have attacked the Nigeria Customs Service base at Koko in Kebbi State, killing one officer and abducting another.
According to a statement from the Kebbi State Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Salisu, the gunmen trailed the anti-smuggling squad to their base, destroyed facilities, killed Officer Dabo Umar, and abducted Officer Babagana Kabiru.
The remains of the slain officer, Dabo Umar, have been recovered and taken to Kaduna for Islamic burial.
Comptroller Earnest Iheanacho, while expressing condolences to the family of the deceased, confirmed that a manhunt has been launched to rescue the abducted officer.
Comptroller Iheanacho said, “We will not be deterred or forced by fear to abandon the patrol or the borders. Our resolve to stem smuggling at all costs is unwavering despite threats by disgruntled elements.”
As rescue operations continue, the Customs Command has promised to keep the public informed and urged officers to maintain professionalism and use all available safety measures during their operations.
