Two students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi were abducted by gunmen on Tuesday night outside the university campus in Benue State.
A student of the institution, Ashar Lubem, on Wednesday said that four students were taken by the gunmen, sparking panic among students.
Lubem said, “Some gunmen kidnapped four students outside campus yesterday evening. We have yet to hear from them. Everyone is in a panic mood because of the incident.”
However, when contacted, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Sewuese Anene, confirmed only two students were reported kidnapped.
She stated, “We received the information yesterday evening that two students were kidnapped. We have commenced an investigation, and further details will be provided soon.”
The abduction has heightened concerns over insecurity around university campuses in the state.
The police have assured the public that efforts are underway to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
