Gunmen abducted three people near the Innoson Motorcycle Showroom along the Onitsha-Owerri Road in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Tuesday evening.

According to an eyewitness, “The three people were driving when armed men blocked their vehicle. The victims were forced out of their car and into another vehicle used by the kidnappers. One of the gunmen even drove off with the victims’ car, following the main vehicle. Because it was dark, we couldn’t see the vehicles clearly.”

The spokesperson for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, saying the victims were abducted around 6:45 p.m.

“Anambra Joint Security Forces are on the offensive for the possible rescue of the three victims unhurt and the arrest of their abductors,” Ikenga stated.

He added that the police are working with information from the scene of the incident to aid the operation.

“The Police Command is determined and is already working with information obtained from the scene for the ongoing rescue operations,” he said.

Ikenga urged residents to assist the police by providing useful information that could help in the investigation.

He advised them to visit the Command headquarters in Awka, the nearest police station, or call emergency numbers 112 or 07039194332 for a prompt response.

This incident comes just a month after gunmen killed three members of a Supersport television crew in the state. The crew had been traveling from Lagos to Uyo, Akwa Ibom, for a broadcast of an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.

In that attack, which occurred along the Ihiala-Orlu Road, 14 people were ambushed. Eight were rescued, two escaped, three were killed, and one still missing.
