Gunmen abduct medical doctor in Niger, demand N150m ransom

A medical practitioner, Anthony Eghagagara, has been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen who attacked his private clinic around 9 p.m. on Thursday in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

Eghagagara, who also serves as Head of Medical Services at the General Hospital in New Bussa, was reportedly attending to patients when the assailants invaded the facility, fired gunshots into the air, and forcefully took him away.

According to his wife, the abductors have made contact with the family and are demanding a ransom of N150 million in exchange for his release.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Niger State, Isah Muhammad Danasabe, confirmed the incident, noting that the state government has been informed and that efforts are ongoing to ensure the doctor regains his freedom safely.
