Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped 10 residents of Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa, two villages in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, according to a Thursday report by Channels Television.
The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident to the station, saying it occurred on Wednesday evening.
“On November 26, 2025, at about 8 pm, a report was received indicating that suspected armed men abducted about ten persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local Government Area. Effort is being made to rescue the victims,” Abiodun said.
Earlier that same day, there was another reported attack in Kakuru, also in Erena Ward, where a blind man was said to have been assaulted by bandits who severed his right hand after snatching a mobile phone from him. The victim is currently receiving first aid at a patent medicine shop in Kuduru.
Residents from Palaita, another community in Erena Ward, also alleged that bandits invaded a rice farm and abducted as many as 24 people, including pregnant women. The figure has not been independently confirmed by PUNCH Online.
These incidents follow a major attack less than a week ago, when armed men stormed St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, abducting more than 300 students and 12 teachers in what has become one of the most severe school kidnappings in recent years.
