Guardiola, Spalletti, shortlisted for 2023 FIFA Best Coach awards

Former Napoli coach, Luciano Spalletti and Pep Guardiola headline the list of nominees for the men’s category of the prestigious Best FIFA Coach awards for 2023. 

In the women’s category, Sarina Wiegman the England manager, secured the women’s award in the previous year following the Lionesses’ triumph in Euro 2022.

Joining her on the women’s shortlist are Chelsea’s Emma Hayes and Barcelona’s Jonatan Giraldez.

In the men’s category, Pep Guardiola, the mastermind behind Manchester City’s Treble, faces competition from Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi and Napoli’s Luciano Spalletti.

The winners of these esteemed awards will be revealed at a ceremony scheduled for Monday, 15 January in London.

Sarina Wiegman, who also earned the title of UEFA Women’s Coach of the Year in August, is part of the distinguished lineup for the Best Women’s Coach accolade. 

The women’s award considers performances from 1 August 2022 to 20 August 2023, while the men’s award covers the period between 19 December 2022 to 20 August 2023.

Notable mentions in the goalkeeper categories include England’s Mary Earps and Manchester City’s Ederson, competing for the best women’s and men’s goalkeeper prizes, respectively.

Emma Hayes, set to depart Chelsea at the end of the season to assume duties in the United States, earned her nomination through securing the Women’s Super League and Women’s FA Cup in the previous season. 

Guardiola, on the other hand, led Manchester City to a triumphant season, clinching the Premier League, FA Cup, and their inaugural Champions League title in 2022-23.
