Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez engaged in a heated exchange following their 1-1 draw in the Premier League on Saturday.
Both teams shared the spoils after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late equalizer canceled out Erling Haaland’s opener. In the aftermath of the match, tensions escalated between Guardiola and Nunez.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had to intervene to restrain Nunez, while Klopp’s assistant Pep Lijnders held back Guardiola.
“He’s just stronger than me,” Guardiola said after the game, downplaying the incident.
“Nothing happened. It’s not frustration. I’m really pleased. The second question in the press conference?“
Klopp, on the other hand, expressed uncertainty about the nature of the altercation.
“I’m not sure I’m the one who should explain it because I was absolutely not involved,” Klopp stated.
“Surprisingly. I love them both so I tried to calm the situation down without knowing 100% what happened because I didn’t understand a word. I really think it’s nothing that hasn’t already been sorted. It’s emotion. Pep wants to win. We want to win. We both did not win so nobody is really happy.“
