British newspaper group The Guardian has announced its decision to stop posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, citing concerns over the platform’s increasingly toxic nature.
In a statement addressed to its readers, The Guardian pointed to the recent US presidential election as a key factor in its decision.
The paper expressed unease over the influence of X’s owner, Elon Musk, who publicly supported Donald Trump and has now secured a role in the president-elect’s administration, tasked with overseeing government spending.
“This is something we have been considering for a while, given the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism,” the statement read.
The newspaper concluded that “the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives.”
Despite this move, the platform reassured readers that its articles would remain shareable on X, and its journalists could still use the platform for news-gathering purposes.
However, it clarified that it would no longer maintain an official presence on the site.
