Guaranty Trust Bank has issued a response to the widespread criticism and speculations following the arrest of social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM).

VDM was taken into custody by police on Friday, May 1, shortly after sharing a video in which he and his mother were seen at a GTBank branch.

According to VDM, their visit to the bank was to challenge what he described as questionable salary deductions from his mother’s account for a loan she allegedly never received.

As public interest in the case intensified, GTBank released CCTV footage that captured the moment VDM exited the banking hall and proceeded to the car park just before his arrest.

However, the actual moment of his apprehension was not shown in the footage, which may be due to a lack of camera coverage in the area outside the bank premises.

Meanwhile, Deji Adeyanju, legal representative for VDM, provided updates on the incident from Abuja.

He confirmed that VDM and a friend were in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

According to Adeyanju, VDM had declined to leave the cell or meet anyone.

He also alleged that GTBank played a role in the arrest, claiming VDM was deliberately locked inside the bank’s exit area for over five minutes to facilitate the EFCC’s operation.

Reports have continued to circulate across various media outlets, with new details emerging about the arrest.

Eyewitness accounts alleged that VDM was forcefully removed from the bank by armed individuals and taken away in a black van, all while his mother watched helplessly.

Concerns about his safety and claims of a possible sinister plot have since spread across social media platforms.
