A human rights group, Save The Poor and Needy Charity Initiative, has submitted a petition to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, expressing concern over the reported burning of the burial site of Prophet Joseph Odeyemi Eyinafe Bojesomo and the subsequent disruption of the cleric’s burial.
The incident is said to have occurred within the premises of Orioke Agbara Emimimo in Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State.
Prophet Bojesomo, who served as the spiritual head of Orioke Agbara Emimimo, passed away in June of this year.
The family had scheduled the burial within the church premises between the 13th and 14th of December 2023.
In the petition addressed to the IGP, SPANCI President, Dr. Yemi Ezekiel Bello, alleges that certain individuals opposed to the burial within the church premises took destructive actions, burning the burial site and causing a disturbance during the burial proceedings.
The group claims that buildings and materials worth millions of naira were destroyed in the process.
Bello urged the Inspector General of Police to investigate the incident and apprehend those responsible for the destruction.
The group expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the matter by the Osun State Police Command, accusing them of negligence and conspiracy with local figures involved in the incident.
“We in Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative are not happy with the Osun State police command’s negligence and conspiracy with Elerinmo of Erinmo land Oba Micheal Odunayo Ajayi Arowotawaya, Chief Taiwo Agbonmagbe the Saba of Erinmo land, and their thugs,” Bello stated.
He further explained that the group had previously petitioned relevant authorities, including the President and the IGP, seeking maximum security around Orioke Agbara Emimimo for the safety of the Bojesomo family and other individuals associated with the burial.
According to the petition, the events unfolded on December 13th and 14th, with reported gunfire, invasion of the prayer mountain, and destruction of buildings.
The group contends that the burial was thwarted, leading the family to bury the late prophet elsewhere in Efon Alaaye due to safety concerns.
The petition seeks a thorough investigation and justice for the alleged crimes committed during the disruption of the cleric’s burial.
