The Transmission Company of Nigeria has assured Nigerians that the restoration of the national grid, which collapsed on Monday, October 14, is ongoing and nearly complete.
The TCN explained that the grid experienced a partial disturbance at around 6:48 p.m. on Monday, but efforts to fully restore power are progressing.
In a statement on Tuesday, October 15, TCN’s Public Affairs General Manager, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed that electricity supply has already been restored in some areas, including the Abuja region.
“The recovery of the grid began immediately, with Azura power station providing the blackstart. Grid recovery reached advanced stages by about 10:24 a.m. today, although there was a slight setback. Despite this, the recovery process continued and has now reached an advanced stage, ensuring bulk power availability to about 90% of our substations nationwide,” the statement read.
Mbah further explained that while most areas are seeing power restored, the Ibom Gas generating station in the South-South was not affected by the disturbance. The station continued to supply power to places like Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu during the outage.
TCN assured the public that a full investigation into the cause of the collapse will take place once the grid is completely restored.
