Many people are feared dead after an explosion occurred at the Natson Filling Station in Lafia, Nasarawa State on Monday.
According to eyewitnesses reports, the incident was caused by the impatience of a bike rider who defied a roadblock after a gas leakage.
It was gathered that the leakage was from a gas truck offloading its content and all vehicles, bikes and passersby were stop from passing through the road.
However, an impatient bike man outsmarted the fire service/security personnel. But while passing through, the bike ignited a fire which killed many around the filling station which is located opposite Police Clinic, Jos road, Lafia.
Some vehicles and tricycles conveying passengers along Jos road were hit by fire from the explosion leaving an unspecified number of persons burnt alive, while others sustained severe burns.
Men of the Federal Road Safety Corp and fire service were evacuating victims of the explosion as of the time of this report.
According to NewTelegraph, a survivor of the incident who gave his as Musa said:’
“Only God knows the number of people that died in that explosion. I saw a bus burning with passengers said. Some were rolling on the ground trying to escape but were not lucky, they all burnt”.
Musa blamed the unfortunate incident on the operator of the gas plant and negligence of state authorities checkmate citing of inflammatory businesses at the heart of the town.
He called on the state government assist victims of the explosion in hospitals as they were in severe pains, just as he called on the
relevant authorities ensure that such business be operated at the outskirt of the metropolis to forestall future occurrence.
