Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially launched Enugu Air, the state’s new airline, describing it as a major step forward for the people of Enugu and an example of what government and private sector partnership can achieve.

The airline’s first flight took off on Monday, just weeks after Mbah marked his administration’s second anniversary. Speaking during the ceremony in Enugu, the governor said the launch was a proud moment that reflected his promise to turn Enugu into a top destination for investment, tourism, and quality living.

“It is an honour to stand before you today, not only as a governor but as a fellow believer in the power of vision,” Mbah said.

He added that Enugu Air is more than just a transport service, saying it is a way to give life to dreams that once seemed far off.

“With our airline, we are opening doors to a sector that once felt out of reach. Enugu Air has given more wings to our dreams, and today we take that first flight together,” the governor said.

Mbah also stressed that the airline was made possible through strong collaboration with the private sector and that more such partnerships would open new opportunities across the state.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who was also at the event, cleared the air over concerns that the Enugu airport was being sold. He explained that the government was only concessioning the airport to private investors who would manage and improve it.

“I have seen some comments saying, ‘No, we are selling Enugu airport out.’ We are concessioning it,” Keyamo said.

He said the move would help build the cargo terminal at the airport, allowing goods to be exported directly from Enugu and boosting economic activity in the region.

Keyamo praised Governor Mbah for not waiting for bureaucracy to slow progress, saying his approach showed commitment to growth and development.
