Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has approved the appointment of 573 additional political aides.
This announcement was made in a statement issued early Tuesday, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps.
With this new batch of appointments, the state now has a total of 707 special aides, excluding commissioners. The new appointees, like the earlier 134, have not yet been assigned specific responsibilities but are expected to serve as Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, Special Advisers, Community Special Assistants, and other roles.
The governor’s office stated that the appointments are part of efforts to enhance governance and improve service delivery to the people of the state. However, some concerned residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision.
A party chieftain, who preferred to remain anonymous, criticized the move, saying, “With the current economic hardship, I don’t personally welcome the idea of engaging the services of such a large number of political aides. The appointment is not going to attract any form of development to the state.”
Despite the mixed reactions, the governor’s office maintains that these appointments are necessary for the state’s governance and service delivery goals.
