Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has opened the new 9.76-kilometer Ikot Eyo-Edem Idim Okpot-Mbiekene-Nung Obong-Ikot Ntung-East-West Road, assuring that more development projects will reach communities across the state, including Nsit Ubium.

At the road’s inauguration on Tuesday, which connects the local government areas of Eket, Esit Eket, and Ibesikpo-Asutan, Governor Eno praised the Nsit Ubium community for their patience, stating, “Your support will not be in vain. We are committed to bringing development that benefits every part of Akwa Ibom.”

The road project also included renovations to the Ikot Eyo Community School and the construction of a 3-bedroom house for the school principal, completed as part of corporate social responsibility by the contractor, Bulletine Construction Company.

However, the governor highlighted a potential gully erosion site that could damage the new road. He urged the contractor to take steps to prevent future erosion and protect the road’s durability.

Looking ahead, Governor Eno shared that the 2025 budget includes plans to build and improve more roads in the region. “In next year’s budget, we have included the dualization of Nung-Udoe, Afaha Nsit road, and further development in Nsit Ubium to boost commerce and traffic flow. We will continue working to improve lives across Akwa Ibom,” he stated.

Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, described the road project as a lifeline for the Nsit Ubium communities. He explained that the road, with its 60-meter bridge and several connecting paths, was built according to high standards.

Local leaders and stakeholders also expressed their gratitude. Dr. Dora Bassey, Woman Leader, noted, “The poor condition of the road made farming and trade difficult for us. Children could hardly pass through it safely during the rainy season. We thank Governor Eno for making this a priority.” The area’s paramount ruler, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, also praised the road as a “relief for the entire community.”

Chief Faysal Harb, Managing Director of Bulletine Construction, thanked the state government and the community, saying, “We appreciate the trust placed in us, and we will continue to meet high expectations on future projects.”
