Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development to demolish parts of Tunga Market and other properties obstructing the ongoing road construction project in Minna.

The governor, during an unannounced tour of the construction site on Saturday, said every house or shop within 100 meters of the Niger State Transport Authority fence must be removed. He stressed that the government remains committed to giving the capital city a new and attractive look.

“We will demolish all properties in the way of this project, including the upstairs buildings, and prepare compensation for the owners,” Governor Bago said. “We’ll ensure all shop owners have enough time to pack their belongings. We aim to take advantage of the dry season to speed up work.”

Properties likely to be affected include houses and shops such as the GT Bank, Tunga branch, and the popular Ostrich Bakery, along with many other businesses.

The governor instructed officials to compile a detailed report on all affected properties and work out compensation plans for the owners.

“Any house that does not align with the NSTA fence will be brought down. CCECC should identify all affected buildings immediately,” he added.

The governor was accompanied by the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Bahago, alongside officials from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development, workers from the CCECC construction company, and other government representatives.

Security was tight during the visit, with mobile policemen, DSS operatives, and vigilante personnel ensuring the safety of the governor and his entourage amidst a large crowd of onlookers.
