The wife of Ogun State governor, Mrs Olufunso Amosun, on Tuesday visited the 9-year-old boy, Korede, chained by his father for over a month inside a Celestial church.
Akorede is currently under medical at the Children’s Ward of Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
During ger visitation, Mrs Amosun said the wife of the President, Hajia Aisha Buhari, is interested in the welfare of the rescued 9-year-old boy.
Mrs Amosun said she was happy to see him recovering fast, adding that the President’s wife, Hajia Aisha Buhari, is also interested in the welfare and speedy rehabilitation of the boy.
She said, “It is reassuring that the boy is doing well despite all what he was subjected to. We were worried that we will see a dejected and withdrawn child but we are seeing Korede that is active with his mind alert.
“Although, he looked smaller than what a child of his age should be but he is recuperating very fast. The state government has taken a proactive step to address the issue.
“The mother of the nation has followed the case when it first broke and she is still following it. She(Aisha Buhari) is very passionate about it, she wants to know the condition and compassionate about the case.”
Korede, who spoke in Yoruba language, begged Mrs Amosun not to allow anybody return him to his father’s house.
The boy who was chained by his father, Francis, for over a month over allegation of stealing, was rescued last Friday by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Ogun State Police Command.
Francis is the pastor of the Key of Joy Celestial Church of Christ, Ajibawo, in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
The governor’s wife was accompanied to the hospital by the Attorney – General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olumide Ayeni, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Modupe Mujota, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, and officials of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Mujota said the first family in the state had adopted Korede, and would ensure he excels in life.
She said, “First family in Ogun State, governor Ibikunle Amosun and his wife, Olufunso, have adopted the boy. Efforts will be made to ensure that Korede excel in life.”
Meanwhile, one of the physicians handling Korede’s case at the FMC, Dr morufat Ogundeyi, said the boy is found to be having “chronic malnutrition,” but expressed the hope that in two weeks time, Korede would regain his strength.
