A midnight fire on Wednesday gutted the popular Alaba Rago Market in the Ojo area of Lagos State, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
The fire reportedly started around 12 midnight, spreading rapidly through the busy market. The cause of the fire was not known at the time of this report.
Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, and other agencies, arrived at the scene to battle the flames.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, and Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that the fire was eventually brought under control to prevent further damage.
“The situation has been contained to stop the fire from spreading to other properties,” Oke-Osayintolu said.
This incident comes just a week after a similar incident in the Idumota spare parts market, where property worth millions of naira was also destroyed.
