Gombe State police, with the aid of local hunters, have intercepted two suspected livestock thieves and recovered 85 stolen animals, including 57 goats and 28 sheep.

The suspects were nabbed in Tulmi community, Akko Local Government Area, following a tip-off from the village head, Malam Abubakar Umar, according to a statement by the state police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi.

One of the key players in the arrest was Yayaji Muhammad, a vigilant member of the Tulmi Hunters’ group, who intercepted the suspects while four of their accomplices managed to escape.

The stolen animals were seized as exhibits, and investigations revealed that at least 25 goats have already been identified and reclaimed by their rightful owners.

The police confirmed that the arrested suspects had confessed to the crime, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing members of the gang.

Security operatives have urged residents to remain vigilant and share useful information to curb crime in the state.
