Global investment bank, Goldman Sachs, has made a generous contribution of $5000 to Tunde Onakoya’s fundraiser as he endeavors to break the world record for a chess marathon.

Onakoya, alongside US chess master Shawn Martinez, embarked on this ambitious journey in Times Square, New York, aiming to set a new world record of 58 hours, surpassing the current record of 56 hours and 9 minutes.

Through his non-profit organizations, Chess in Slums Africa and The Gift of Chess, Onakoya seeks to raise $1 million to support underprivileged children across African communities with access to basic education.

“Huge news.. We just received [$]5,000 from GoldmanSachs,” announced The Gift of Chess on X, expressing gratitude for the generous donation.

With Goldman Sachs’ contribution, Onakoya’s fundraising efforts have exceeded $62,000, demonstrating significant progress towards his philanthropic goals.

The chess marathon, streamed live on Tittify and Twitch, has garnered over 500 concurrent viewers, captivating audiences worldwide. Remarkably, Onakoya has remained unbeaten in over 180 games during the marathon.

Throughout the grueling challenge, the 29-year-old chess master has received unwavering support from millions of Nigerians, both at home and in New York City, who continue to rally behind him.

However, challenges such as the mandated 5-minute breaks observed every hour and a location interruption necessitating movement of the setup may extend Onakoya’s world record time of 58 hours.

Despite the hurdles, Onakoya remains determined to achieve his goal, fueled by the overwhelming support and encouragement from his supporters.
