Ghana’s dancehall star Shatta Wale has been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office over a tax probe linked to his yellow Lamborghini Urus.

The singer, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., turned himself in to EOCO on Wednesday with his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo. His team said he came voluntarily to help with the investigations.

His management urged fans to remain calm as his legal team works with authorities. “We urge the SM Family and all well-wishers to remain calm and avoid any speculation,” the statement read.

The luxury car, valued at $150,000, was seized earlier this year during a joint operation between EOCO and the FBI. Investigators linked the vehicle to proceeds of fraud involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian who is serving a seven-year jail term in the US.

Shatta Wale denied any criminal connection, saying he is a “third-party owner” and did not know who shipped the car to Ghana.

His detention has triggered strong reactions among his supporters. On Wednesday, fans protested outside EOCO’s Accra office, demanding his release.

Shatta Wale has since been granted bail of GH₵10 million with two sureties. His lawyers are working to meet the bail conditions while investigations continue.

Authorities said the case is part of a larger crackdown by Ghanaian and US agencies on cross-border fraud networks.
