Popular Nigerian comedian, Bovi, has opened up about his strained relationship with his late father, revealing that the only thing he inherited from him was negativity.
Bovi made this emotional disclosure during the inaugural live edition of a public conversation series, according to Naija News.
Speaking candidly, the comedian described the negative energy as a recurring pattern in his family—a trend he believes resembles a generational curse.
He shared that he had intentionally distanced himself from his father in order to break what he saw as a toxic family legacy.
“What made the relationship with my late father difficult is what they call family patterns or what the church calls ‘generational curses’,” he said.
“My father gave me what he had, and what he had was a lot of negative energy. That was given to him as well. I have chosen to be the stop.”
Bovi also acknowledged that although his relationship with his father lacked affection, he found peace through forgiveness and compassion in his father’s final years.
“When I used to tell that story, I was used to playing the victim, talking about the loveless relationship. I was speaking from a very bitter place,” he said.
“But long before he passed, I had already forgiven him. He was sick from 2021 till he passed; I and my siblings were taking care of him. And I was taking care of him with all the love. I didn’t struggle to take care of him.”
Bovi’s father passed away in February 2025. His heartfelt reflection adds depth to ongoing public conversations about emotional healing, family trauma, and the power of breaking generational cycles.
