The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has filed a lawsuit seeking ₦5 billion in damages against Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, over alleged invasion of privacy.
Adams filed the case in an Oyo State High Court, accusing Igboho of recording and publicly sharing a private phone call involving Adams without his permission.
In the suit, labeled M/1006/2024, Adams argues that Igboho’s actions violated Section 37 of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, which protects the right to privacy.
Adams stated, “Releasing private conversations without consent is unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional,” adding that Igboho’s actions were “reckless and harmful” to his reputation and his role as the Aare Ona Kakanfo.
Adams claims that Igboho shared the recorded conversation on social media in April 2024, which Adams says caused him “serious embarrassment.”
He is seeking the court’s intervention to enforce his fundamental rights and is demanding exemplary damages to address the impact on his reputation.
