The Kano State government has revealed that the past All Progressives Congress-led administration under Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje left behind over N300 billion.

The debt, the government claimed, has created substantial obstacles for the newly inaugurated administration in the state.

The state’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo revealed this during the North-West Zonal Meeting of New Nigeria Peoples Party in Kaduna on Friday.

He stated “We came into office inheriting a government that left us with nothing but debt. Initially, it was N300 billion, but now it is approaching N500 billion, and we are still counting. Once we complete the assessment, we will inform Nigerians, especially our fellow Kano residents, about the total debt left behind,”

He further commended Governor Kabir Yusuf’s effective management of available resources.

Gwarzo said prompt payment of salaries, resolution of outstanding issues, and the initiation of disbursing retirement gratuities, including death benefits to the families of deceased retirees, as part of the administration’s compassionate approach.

“We have allocated N6 billion for this purpose. The screening process is underway, and by the end of this month, many people will receive their death benefits and gratuities. This initiative will continue, and our goal is to clear all outstanding gratuities within the next two years,” Gwarzo affirmed.
